![]() ![]() This movie fails on so many levels it’s hard to believe it went to cinemas and didn’t just go straight to streaming, or Nickelodeon. It even has a song sequence that was stolen from an episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation only Degrassi handled it a lot better, at least in that the victim was the one that decided to sing the song to her rapist, she wasn’t pushed into it and it just worked at lot better. The character of Kris is just awful, she’s constantly using her friends trauma to push her own agenda, forcing her to do things she’s not comfortable with, it’s really hard to watch. None of the characters are likeable except maybe Riley. Plot wise this thing is incredibly predictable, it really doesn’t help that the trailer gives away every single beat of the movie, including revealing the big plot twist, I still can’t believe the trailer reveals who was behind it all. This barely even feels like a slasher movie, it feels like a slasher movie made by someone who thinks they’re above that yet ends up making a movie that’s much worse than the norm in the genre they think they’re upstaging. ![]() The plot has nothing to do with Black Christmas at all, at least with the 2006 version you got the feeling they had at least seen the original, this version? I don’t think anyone involved looked at the original at all, it has nothing to do with it other than the setting which is a shame as Black Christmas has such a cool premise and idea you could do something really intense and scary with it, Blumhouse didn’t even try with this, they just took the title and slapped it onto something that doesn’t even remotely resemble the movie it’s a remake of. The editing and ADR work is just awful, the entire film feels like an 80s edited for television movie, yet they charge you full price to see it. The cinematography is very uninspired, the entire thing looks like something you’d expect to primer on Nickelodeon, at least the 2006 version has its visual identity, this is shot very poorly. The kills are very uninteresting and not very creative at all. It’s terrible! As a slasher movie it’s very ineptly made, the tension and suspense is none existent, the jump scares you can see coming a mile off, they are some of the laziest and poorly set up jump scares I’ve seen. Also, (in my opinion) the terror for the original story came from the idea that this was simply a twisted human that could be stopped yet by pure chance wasn’t.Īnyways, that’s just my two cents on it. The possession angle seemed to rob the killers of accountability and agency. I think that would made a lot more sense for the story (granted, it has been a minute since I watched it and I would rather not revisit it). In my opinion, I think the theme of the story (had it been written well) would have resonated more had it been a group of very human perpetrators who feel entitled to the protagonists and girls like them. She came off as insensitive and seemed to view Riley as a prop she could use to make her point.Īs for the supernatural approach, it made no sense in both the context of the story and the legacy of the original Black Christmas. ![]() Kris was by far one of the most unlikeable characters I’ve seen in film in a long time, which is especially bad because she wasn’t supposed to be. The writing was shoddy and the production was rushed. ![]() The movie had great potential but incredibly poor execution. ![]()
